And now it’s time for the evening gown portion of our “Make Me A Sandwich” competition. THE POUND-CAKE PANINI: Full of glamour and drama, this dessert sandwich is a perfect 10.
Sure, you could use other things for the bread in this panini, (brioche, challah) but why not go overboard into indulgence? In it’s purest form, pound-cake is soft and sweet, buttery & delicious. You could substitute bananas for strawberries if you prefer, that’s your business. Whatever you do, don’t even think about any other spreads to hold this sandwich together than Nutella. It is the ambrosia of the gods, brought to Earth by unicorns.
Step one: Slice the pound-cake into 1/2”-3/4” slices.
Step two: Slather both sides with Nutella and add the fruit slices to form the sandwich.
Step three: Grill for about 3 minutes in a grill pan, or in a panini grill, or a George Foreman grill, even a regular non-stick pan (you probably don’t have to butter the pan, but I thought, “What would Paula Deen do?”
So that’s pretty much it. You can garnish as you see fit, whipped cream, more strawberries, mint.
3 ingredients, 3 easy steps, 3 oh 3 the magic number.
This fabulous sandwich entry was submitted via email by the lovely Miss Darienne Lake.
