My submission for the ClassyFoodMofo Make me a Sandwich Contest:
The Lucky SandwichI call this the Lucky Sandwich mostly because I took the idea from Lucky’s Sandwich Co. in Chicago, BUT I did change several things about it, so shut up.
The most important ingredient to this sandwich is the French fries. I made sweet potato fries but you can make any kind you want (except for frozen Ore-Ida fries, don’t get lazy on me).
The next most important ingredient is coleslaw. I made blue cheese coleslaw, but again I’m not telling you how to live your life, coleslaw-wise. However if you do use some craptastic store-bought brand your sandwich will suck and so will you. The blue cheese coleslaw consists of mayo, blue cheese, apple cider vinegar, sugar, parsley, carrots, cabbage, and red onion.Next is the meat. I used smoked turkey, but it works with any kind of deli meat: pastrami, roast beef, chicken, corned beef, alligator, bear, narwhal, etc. (PS if you find a place with decent narwhal please let me know).
Now take two pieces of bread, brush on some olive oil and toast them. Stack on the meat, top with a generous amount of coleslaw, tomato slices, a generouser amount of fries, and second slice of bread. The coleslaw covers all your condiments, so no need for extra mayo or mustard, or god forbid ketchup. Now EAT!.
This is a big, messy sandwich. If you don’t make a mess while eating it then you should probably have a beer and loosen the fuck up. Enjoy!
